Ah! I remember this ad very well from the mid/late '70s. I believe they were still airing it into the '80s. Time flies.

There were stores around as early as 1970, and Lazarus was selling toys long before that, but it was recognized nationally in 1978,I believe.

i think that commercial was directed by Rankin/Bass- it's animation style is very Frosty the Snowman and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas :)

I went to this Toys r us 2 days ago and it was white! Did it open in 1978? It was kind of hard to get to.

Also Jaws 4. I never saw the Stallone movie, but I flipped when I saw it in Jaws 4 since at the time I saw it, it had stopped running for at least 10 years. I also flipped when I first saw it here (especially since Jaws 4 didn't show the whole commercial). Great commercial, and I want to beat up whoever decided to stop running it every Christmas season. Yeah, that may sound a little abnormal but everything was better back then, so I want to beat up whoever all decided to change everything.

they used to show this at christmas time for quite a few years, i remembered the words and everything. and i was in dallas.

Man...Toys R Us is just not the same. Have you noticed that they got rid of the multi-colored walls in the front of the stores? I can remember my first time in a Toys R Us, I almost had a heart attack seeing all the star wars toys! This commercial reminds me of Christmas vacation from school and snow falling outside.

This commercial would come on during The Twilight Zone marathon on Thanksgiving day, back in the early eighties.we would get so excited, It was the official start of Christmas for us,Great Memories.

A great commercial that brings back a lot of memories (yes, I am now 40 years old and old enough to remember this). I lived in the Lake Arrowhead, California area at the time (and still do). It is sad that Toys R Us does not have the number of stores today that they did in the 70s, but I guess that it is due to Walmart and all the other discount store. The Toys R Us nearest my house in Lake Arrowhead, the San Bernardino store, closed quite a few years ago.

Awesome...I totally remember this commercial, and never forgot the jingle. Haven't seen this in almost 30 years, and watching it now felt as if I had never stopped watching it.
